FAQ
What is a Domain Name?
Domain names are quite simple. They are basically a company name, online. No two are exactly alike. You purchase rights to a domain name, and then no one else can use it. Normally you pay yearly for domains, but most places will let you pay for several years in advance, or chose to auto renew so it’s not a hassle every year. Domain names usually start at around $7 (USD) and are easily available at www.GoDaddy.com
What is Hosting?
Hosting is storage space on a server. You upload all the files needed for your website, and then point your domain to the proper server. Then when someone looks up your site, the files are all available because they are stored online, on your hosting company’s servers. I offer hosting that is suited for developers. If you hire me to do your site I’ll recommend my own. But, if you’d like to get hosting elsewhere, I highly recommend BLUEHOST.COM
What is Wordpress?
Wordpress is a free blogging software that you can install on your server. Some hosting providers offer it in their C-Pannels, and others do not. But, fear not! it’s free either way, and if you don’t have it already included in your hosting you just download it from wordpress.org and ftp (upload) it to your server!
This software enables you to create a site and/or a blog. You can create numerous static pages, set up a blog complete with custom categories and tags.
What is a WP Theme?
Wordpress Themes are pre-made templates that are easily installed on your server. They are the “design” for your website. Many can be modified to suit your tastes; anything from custom header images to a complete color change!
